Night Support Worker – part time

Part Time – £18,388.40 for 27 hours per week

About Jimmy’s Cambridge

Jimmy’s Cambridge is one of Cambridge’s leading providers of support and accommodation to people who are and have been experiencing homelessness. We aim to help people get people off the streets and into their own home, backed up with all the support we can offer from our talented and committed team of staff, volunteers and partners.

The Role

The new person will take responsibility for the assessment, support and resettlement needs of residents at our emergency 20-bed accommodation on East Road. This is the first place people come to when they find themselves rough sleeping. The Support Worker will provide a wide range of support to the residents using current best practice. The service will be person-centred, and since the service is for people with a range of needs, will include a focus on harm minimisation, on recovery which will take time and not be straight-forward, and providing a service which has clear boundaries but has flexibility considering the aims of the service. Residents are often active at night, meaning that night shifts offer a vital opportunity for them to engage in support work.

This role will require the person to have good IT skills.  You will be responsible for key-working residents and developing individual needs/risk assessments, support plans and maintaining the resident resettlement pathway. The role will also require an element of lone working in the building, although there will always be a second worker on the premises at all times.

About You

You will come with some knowledge of the challenges faced by people experiencing homelessness, along with a genuine interest and drive to support them. You will be able to work a variety of daytime shifts, inclusive of weekends. You will be well organised with the ability to evidence a high standard of resident support.

Essential to this role is having great communication skills, and an ability to quickly build trusting relationships with people. You must have a willingness to be ‘hands on’ as required.

Training will be offered to people who have all the right skills and competencies, but perhaps are new to working with this group of people.
