Scruffs pamper day for women experiencing homelessness

In recognition of World Homelessness Day on Tuesday 10th October, Sodexo and Scruffs Hairdressing Salon organised a personal care afternoon with Jimmy’s to provide some much-needed respite for women experiencing homeless in our community.  This was the second year running of this event.

In the second event of its kind, residents from Jimmy’s and Whitworth House (a Cambridge project that supports young homeless women) were invited to Scruffs salon where they were treated to a luxurious hair wash, cut and blow dry by the skilled hairdressers, who generously donated their time and expertise.

Barry Griffiths, Community Engagement Officer at Jimmy’s said:

“We all like to feel good about ourselves. For people who use our services, self-care is hard to come by, so to experience something many of us take for granted is really valuable. When life is proving to be a struggle, having the opportunity to feel “human” is important. Many thanks to those who helped make it happen.”

Supply partners Sodexo, JLL, Securitas, CBRE and Avantor supported the event by purchasing items to fill gift bags containing various self-care items for the women who attended the event and for those back at the hostels, so they could enjoy a DIY self-care day.

Annie Moreham, Community & Positive Impact Lead from Sodexo said:

“I’m thrilled that we were able to organise this event once again for the women in our community. With a bit of effort and collaboration from local businesses, we’ve created a space where these women—who often don’t have the opportunity to prioritise self-care—can simply relax and enjoy themselves. That means a great deal to us.”
