Jimmy’s firmly believe everyone deserves a safe place to call home

Here at Jimmy’s we are all too aware of the hideous domestic terrorism that has taken hold of the streets of the UK over the last week. We want to reiterate the message that racism and islamophobia have no place in our society and we will not tolerate it.

We are grateful Cambridge has remained relatively untouched as far as riots are concerned however we are mindful that things can change very quickly.

We thought it was important to share with you what we have been working on at Jimmy’s during this time.

Internally we have communicated with our staff that if at any point they feel unsafe coming to or from work, or once at their place of work, we are here to fully support them, including paying for taxis if needed.

Knowing those rough sleeping are particularly vulnerable, especially those from ethnically diverse backgrounds in this instance, we have also been making plans should there be a repeat of last week’s violence at any point.

We have arranged to house anyone who is rough sleeping should violence break out on the streets of Cambridge. All they need to do is knock on the door at East Road or 451 and we will give them a safe haven. We will be working with Street Outreach and other partner organisations to spread this message and would also ask you, as part of this community, to let people know that our doors are open should they feel at risk due to riots.

Everyone should have a safe place to call home, no matter where they were born, and we are determined to see this happen.

Thank you, as always, for all of your support.

If you wish to make a donation to support our work we would be very grateful.
