We are delighted to be celebrating 10 years of our colleague Barry’s Griffiths, Communities Engagement Officer at Jimmy’s. Here are some words from him.
“Back in 2010 I had a period of rough sleeping following a relationship break-up. After a few months on the streets, I was fortunate to find myself with a bed in Jimmy’s. After 3 years under the Jimmy’s support umbrella, I was offered a temporary 3 month contract by Jimmy’s to administer a training project. I don’t think it was ever intended for me to speak to the public at large, but here I am, ten years down the line, having spoken with nearly 10,000 people doing a job that I enjoy. Speaking to all audiences, from 4 to 80, sharing and exchanging views around homelessness and championing Jimmy’s, how we have grown and the work we do.
Being given the opportunity to engage, chat with and learn from many across Cambridge’s wide and diverse community has been nothing short of amazing. To all who I have met, thanks for listening. For anyone who would wish to have a talk reflecting on my rough sleeping experiences, how Jimmy’s was when I used the service up to the current day, and how we support people today, then please contact us at info@jimmyscambridge.org.uk and I will look forward to meeting you.
Thank you Cambridge for giving me this opportunity and for listening”.
